Living Large in 704 Square Feet

I love this concept of living intentionally, literally within your means.  True quality over quantity.  Exactly what you need, everything with a purpose & function.  What I especially love is how mindful & connected its creators are to the process & the space.  That really embodies the concept of home to me.  More on this conscious, green Portland home HERE via the NYT.

"Early in their marriage, Lily Copenagle and Jamie Kennel began crafting a plan for living, scribbling house designs and lists of must-haves on notepads and paper napkins.

The idea was simple. They would create a home that was big enough for the two of them, but small enough so that it would be easy to maintain, environmentally responsible and inexpensive to operate. And that would allow them to free up their time and funds for intellectual and recreational pursuits. Own less, live more.”

EyeSwoon Home

I recently discovered EyeSwoon (Athena Calderone) thanks to a feature on the author’s home in Elle.  I absolutely fell in love with her Amagansett home (I die for the kitchen & outdoor space!).  Read the story HERE & then obsess over her blog as I have!  Beautiful design & style, plus plant-driven tasty recipes.

I love this local project! This Kickstarter campaign out of San Francisco seeks to create the perfect yoga pant—in soft, fun prints! It’s harder than it sounds. The more yoga I practice, the more frustrated I become searching for yoga gear. Most days find me on my mat, so the right gear is important. I agree with the filmmaker that yoga really is an expression of my truest self & I just can’t bring myself to fit into the cookie cutter sea of Lululemon I find myself surrounded by (let alone the $90+ price tag). My perfect yoga pant has to be in the $50 or below range, mid-calf to full-length (so I don’t slip during inversions & arm balances), low, wide waistband, FUN, sweat-camoflaging (to hide the ever-flattering crack sweat that is inevitable during heated flow), and most importantly pass the see-through bend test when I’m spread into prasarita! It’s really hard to find all of these qualities in one pant & I can’t wait for my Inyos to arrive! Plus I love supporting local projects. Thanks for turning me onto these, Jennifer Jarrett! Support their campaign & reserve your pair today HERE!

Sunday Supper

Balsamic Zucchini

Balsamic Zucchini (via Epicurious)

I made a version of this and served over a bed of quinoa with a simple butter lettuce side salad.  This is a super simple recipe with simple, quality ingredients (my favorite kind).  Use good olive oil, balsamic, salt, & cheese.

Some friends gave us the most giant zucchini I have ever seen from their garden.  (I only used half; we have leftovers & another entire zuc!)  Since it was so large, I hollowed out the centers and filled with salted & broiled grape tomatoes.  I also dry-roasted the pine nuts.

Craftsman & Wolves

This is one of my favorite spots.  I kind of don’t even want to tell you about it, but it’s clear the cat is out of the bag.  I love the exposed brick & ceiling beams.  I happened to stop by recently on a rare free weekday (read: no line down the block) on a sunny day in the Mission.  There’s nothing better than a sunny day in the Mish, coffee, pastry, & good company.

C&W is the first endeavor by Outfit Generic, a 5-person foodie team helmed by former Quince exec pastry chef, William Werner.  Whether you are in the mood for sweet of savory, you will not be disappointed.  It also recently took top honors for Best Desserts in 7x7’s Eat + Drink Awards (ousting Tartine from its long-held top spot).

Simple & darling arrangements lined the table (see another shot HERE).

Tasty coffee.

From the walls of one of my favorite spots… (More to come)

Quotes that adorn the polished concrete walls.

Nearby Dolores Park overlooking my sweet city, San Francisco.  I’m telling you, there is no better place on a sunny afternoon.

My new candle obsession…this soy candle (good for the environment & burns 65 hours!) from Illume’s Modern Naturals line smells SO fresh & delightful.  I found it while perusing one of my favorite home stores in San Diego, Mixture.  I absolutely adore the freshness of basil & mint scented things (HERE is another favorite from Jonathan Adler & another cheaper soy Target mint basil version).  PS — I also love basil & mint-inspired cocktails!
